Water Extinguishers
Water extinguishers are very effective when extinguishing Class A fires. It works by removing the heat from the fire. There are two methods of using a water or Class A fire extinguisher.
CO2 Extinguishers
CO2 fire extinguishers are filled and stored in high pressure and may be used on Class B fires and electrical equipment. The extinguisher should be used in an upright position.
Wet Chemical Extinguishers
Wet chemical extinguishers are reliable when putting out Class F fires which are caused by cooking oils and fats. They are filled with suppressant chemicals which help cool the fat or oil without reacting with it.

Foam extinguishers are regarded as multipurpose and can be used on both Class A and Class B fires. They are increasingly used where water extinguishers would normally be provided such as an office environment as well as where flammable liquids are present

Dry Powder Extinguishers are flexible and reliable in most situations. They can be used on most types of fire and are safe to use on or near live electrical equipment.
