CO2 Extinguishers in London
CO2 fire extinguishers are filled and stored in high pressure and may be used on Class B fires and electrical equipment. The extinguisher should be used in an upright position. Range is about 1-1,5 meters and will last for a minimum of 11 seconds.
CO2 works by driving the oxygen out of the fire area causing the fire to be smothered. Improper use can cause problems to the operator like getting ice burns as a result of touching the horn of the extinguisher. These fire extinguishers are not suitable for Class A fires because the extinguisher charges at high velocity causing the burning material to be spread over a wide area and that can cause the fire to spread. CO2 extinguishers also present a suffocation risk and shouldn’t be used in very confined spaces. As soon as the fire has been extinguished the area must be ventilated immediately.
