What IS A Nurse Call System?

A nurse call system may be required by law for your facilities, may be not. But it sure has a lot of benefits. As BAFE and NICEIC Approved contractor, EFE Fire & Electrical installs and maintains every type of nurse call system.

What Is A Nurse Call System?

A Nurse Call System is a set of devices that enables healthcare providers to interact more efficiently with the people they care for. A healthcare provider can interact more efficiently with their patients with a Nurse Call System. It allows healthcare providers to care for patients more attentively and efficiently.

What Does A Nurse Call System Offer?

Mainly, peace of mind for everyone. Nurse call systems reduce healthcare worker fatigue, provides instant communication between caretakers and patients. Nurse Call Systems are cost-effective, scalable and can be fully integrated.

What Do You Mean “Scalable”?

A nurse call system has many components. You may need some of them, or you may not. You may also get some other components in future according to your growing needs

Components Of A Nurse Call System

As we have mentioned before Nurse Call Systems are scalable. You have the option to add any type of component according to your patients and employees’ needs.

Ovedooor Lights

The overdoor light is typically located outside of patient and staff areas to provide a visual indication of calls originating from the bedside, bathroom, and code stations as well as service requirements and staff presence. The dome light alerts staff to the correct location of where the call’s coming from to expedite the response.

Patient Station

The Patient Station enables healthcare professionals to communicate with patients directly, eliminating the unnecessary trips back and forth from patient rooms and maximizing their time. These stations are typically installed at the bedside and may also be used as a wiring hub to monitor medical equipment.

Corridor Display

These indicate incoming calls in staff rooms, corridors, nursing stations and more. Displays show call type, call location and (depending on the device used to make the call) the User ID or name of the person calling. Highest priority calls are shown first with a message saying how many calls are waiting. Flash and beep rates intensify to reflect the urgency of incoming calls.

Call Cords

The call cord is utilised in conjunction with the patient station. These can be plugged into call points to activate. An anti-bacterial pull cord pack is also available for use in hospitals, clinics or any other area where infection control is imperative to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria.

Call Points

Call points are one of the main components of any nurse call system. While some call points may have only 2 buttons (call, reset) more advanced ones have infrared sensors and remote sockets which you can plug in many other components like pressure mats, tail call leads etc. And also these can make up to 5 different call levels- Standard, Ensuite, Help Required, Emergency, Presence & Attendance (dependent on configuration and ancillary devices used). Attack and Attendance calls can also be made if connected to compatible slave infrared receiver.

Patient Wandering Systems

Often people with dementia or alzheimers, who may be confused or disorientated don’t always remember how to press buttons and what things are. Dementia Care Solutions and Patient Wandering Systems can sense people’s movement. So if a patient gets out of bed during the night and they are too confused to make a call they would not be very safe. With PIR sensors that movement can be detected, a call can be made, lights can be automatically turned on. Even bed wetting can be detected and reported to the main nurse station.

Components of Patient Wandering Systems

Dementia Care Controller

Allows care providers to enhance the level of care they provide for patients suffering from dementia, Alzheimers, incontinence and other degenerative illnesses. Includes all of the inputs, outputs, timers and power needed for the connection of PIRs, enuresis sensors, bed exit mats, LED lights, door contacts, IR receivers, overdoor lights and more.

Enuresis/General Purpose Interface Socket

Includes all of the inputs, outputs, timers and power needed for the connection of PIRs, enuresis sensors, bed exit mats, LED lights, door contacts, IR receivers, overdoor lights and more. Includes two 6.35mm remote jack sockets – one for use with a enuresis/bed wet sensor and one that will accept a floor pressure mat, bed exit mat or chair exit mat.

Enuresis/Bed Wet Sensor

Designed to trigger a call when moisture is detected in a patient’s bed. Typically positioned across and over a mattress, directly underneath the bed sheet. Protects against patient discomfort and reduces the number of incontinence checks staff are required to make. Wipe clean design – can be re-used many times.

Bed Exit Mat

Designed to trigger a call by sensing the pressure change when a patient exits a bed. Typically positioned across and over a mattress, directly underneath the bed sheet.

Chair Exit Mat

Designed to trigger a call by sensing the pressure change when a patient exits a chair. To reduce the risk of nuisance calls, Interface Unit includes circuitry that prevents a momentary change in pressure such as a patient quickly changing position from triggering a call.

Floor Pressure Mat

A durable 90cm x 60cm (3ft x 2ft) floor pressure mat c/w 2m lead and 6.35mm jack plug. Designed to trigger a Standard call on a Quantec or 800 Series Call System when foot pressure is detected. Typically located alongside a bed to alert staff to the prospect of a wandering patient in nursing homes, etc. Can also be used in low-level access control applications.

Interface Unit c/w Remote Socket

Allows any device with a normally open or normally closed 6.35mm (1/4 inch) jack plug to be connected to Quantec. Particularly suited for use with our NC805MD Portable Movement Detector (n/o operation), QT644 Floor Pressure mat (n/o operation), QT633 Bed Exit mat (n/c operation) or QT634 Chair Exit Mat (n/c operation).

Door Contacts

The Door Contacts are installed onto the door and activates when the door is opened. A key operator timer system gives staff the ability to pass through the door without it alarming.

Wrist Pendant

Allows patients in bedrooms and communal areas to remotely trigger standard calls via an infrared call point, ceiling receiver or radio receiver. Supplied on an adjustable wrist strap alleviating the need for long and potentially hazardous tail call leads.
